Integrating and Managing External Data Across Multiple Regions

Demyst’s clients include a leading global payments and shopping service that provides smarter, more flexible shopping and purchase experiences for a rapidly growing customer base. This client offers direct payments, pay-after-delivery options, and installment plans that let its customers pay when and how they prefer. Their customer base includes 90 million active retail customers across 250,000 merchants in 17 countries.

The client’s initial success in its home region was built on centralized credit bureau information and deep historical customer transaction data that was challenging to replicate in other countries. As they began serving an increasing number of customers in a larger number of regions around the world, they also needed to meet different regulatory requirements in Europe, the United States, Australia, and New Zealand.

The client had internal teams that managed individual vendor relationships to acquire the data necessary for its anti-fraud, KYC/KYB, identity verification, and credit decisioning processes. This involved more than 80 globally distributed vendors — the diffusion of information introduced a lack of standardization across sources and required additional effort to monitor the performance of individual data sources and develop contingency plans. 

The desire to manage data relationships more efficiently was the driving force behind this client reaching out to Demyst, seeking to leverage international experience and global data coverage. Through the implementation of previous customer solutions, Demyst had developed in-depth, hands-on knowledge of use cases and data for target jurisdictions that could improve lead acquisition, fraud prevention, and compliance processes. 

The client had set deadlines for entering new markets that aligned with strategic merchant partnerships, its own corporate strategy, and seasonal opportunities. By working in collaboration with AWS, Demyst was able to deliver rapid country rollout of the desired data solutions. Complete integration was accomplished in less than a month. The increased scalability and flexibility of Demyst’s services also offered real-time performance monitoring across all data products in excess of the client’s internal thresholds.

The Demyst platform provides access to thousands of data connectors from hundreds of data providers within the AWS cloud infrastructure. These capabilities were used to support anti-fraud, underwriting, and KYC processes. It meant less time was needed when landscaping and testing data from new sources, simplifying what had previously been extended procurement and onboarding processes. 

By leveraging a single API to maintain external data relationships across multiple geographies, the client was able to deploy a fraud solution in 14 countries, maintaining trust and security while managing large volumes of personally identifying information (PII). The collaboration with AWS enabled priority market integration and schema standardization to deploy credit and KYC solutions through a single API, regardless of jurisdiction.
